LocalBy: Mobile-First Marketplace for Artisans

Localby sought to challenge platforms like Etsy and Facebook Marketplace by providing a superior discovery experience for unique local products. A critical requirement was that the platform had to be highly accessible to users on the go—specifically, artisans and shoppers at physical craft fairs. They needed a lightweight, high-performance solution that felt like a native app but could be accessed instantly without a download.

Embracing an agile startup approach, we built a Mobile-First Web Application using Next.js. We focused the UI/UX design exclusively on mobile resolutions to ensure a "native-like" experience on smartphones. By utilizing React Server Components, we optimized the platform for speed, which is essential for mobile users with varying data speeds at outdoor markets. Our senior developer worked directly with their CTO to prioritize a "Mobile-First" feature set, ensuring the MVP was ready for real-world testing in just three weeks.

The MVP launched as planned, providing a seamless mobile browsing and checkout experience. The mobile-centric approach enabled Localby to validate its hypothesis directly with users at local fairs. Following the successful launch and a "Bug Bash" session to polish the mobile UI, Localby successfully attracted investors. This funding allowed them to transition into stage two, where we scaled the team to add advanced features in time for the high-traffic Black Friday mobile shopping period.
