Revamping Resource Planning with Enhanced UX and Robust Data Handling
problem
Our Client had an existing resource planning solution that they had recently been translating from the old Angular version to Vue.js, to allow them to add new features and better serve their customer needs. We were asked to work with the last Angular module (WhatIf) which is used by Planners and Project Managers to make simulations, as well as short and long-term planning on extensive project and resource data sets, while they had their team focused on further development of other modules.

The team consisting of a Product Owner, Tech Lead, 2 more Developers, and a Quality Assurance specialist worked for nearly a year in 3-week sprints starting with key features and then on top of that adding further features every cycle, allowing the customer to see the results, give feedback and course-correct regularly.

During the process, we engaged UX specialists to optimize some of the user flows, which allowed us to build an even better user experience. Apart from that, we have optimized some of the sections to allow the app to handle data sets that in the case of some customers ranged up to 20k projects. When the extent of the project scope became clear, we engaged additional QA specialized in automated testing to allow for regular production releases and decrease the long-term testing costs.
