Boosteroid, a cutting-edge cloud platform for advanced cloud gaming, faced the challenge of finding a new application for GPUs post-decline in popularity due to reduced demand in the mining industry. To address this, the client developed data centers with numerous servers to enable various use cases for real users. However, they encountered fierce competition from existing market players like Nvidia GeForce Now and Google Stadia, necessitating architectural enhancements to ensure minimal playback latency, HD video quality, high FPS, and smooth gaming experiences.

Engaging in the Boosteroid project during its infancy, our focus revolved around crafting solutions for multiple data centers and the cloud infrastructure. We developed and implemented several key technological solutions, including a private cloud spanning multiple data centers with unique features such as dynamic attachment of game drives, a pool of running virtual machines (VMs) to reduce startup time, PCI passthrough of NVIDIA GPUs in KVM and ESXi hypervisors, and a sophisticated network setup comprising management, video/audio, and game data channels. Additionally, we created software to emulate keyboard and mouse input, manage a WebRTC streaming media server (Janus), and develop a browser and desktop client for smooth gameplay. Moreover, we constructed an e-shop where users could purchase playtime, leveraging Python, JavaScript, NodeJS, and C++ for development.
